Day 5

July 7, 2007- Brugge

We woke up a little late today so we got to the train station about 10. I listened to my iPod and slept. We got there around 2 pm. Train station was pretty small and plain. But when we got out, THERE WAS A LOT OF TOURISTS! The sky was so blue and clean. People said the rain went away yesterday, so it was pure sunshine. I used my first public bathroom. It cost 40 cents. Someone in the train info. kiosk told us to go to a big red building for tourist stuff. Really big building! I wore my H&M hat, my “peace, love, joy AE t-shirt,” long white socks I forgot to return to Mollie, my long AE baggy pants, and my nike shox. IT WAS BURNING HOT! There was a trouble to find a hotel. Where we wanted to stay was right next to a festival which will last to 1 am. So the hotel didn’t want any booking. We finally booked a bed & breakfast called Collins (or something like that). It was a little outside the main plazas and action, but it was okay. The house was very narrow and the steps were small and steep. The room was so nice and clean, and a beautiful view of the park. Because it was so hot, I put on my sleeping shorts! I looked pretty stupid. I was desperate to buy some clothes I don’t look stupid in public. So we went shopping! I went into a store called “edc by spirit.” I bought really cute Bermuda shorts, a white LOW CUT shirt (only thing that matched), and flip-flops. IT COSTS LIKE 65 EUROS! RIP OFF! Arg. Then I saw really cute flats for 16 euros. (flip flops costs 15.50 euro. It looked so much better.) Then we wanted to take a boat tour, because everyone has to take one. Like literally. It was very nice. Burgge was gorgeous! We saw swan lake. Beautiful. The houses were literally on the water. Very nice, I enjoyed it. It ended around 5. We walked around the town to different places. Dad wanted us to go to the church with Michelangelo’s sculpture, but we were like 10 min late. Then we ate at a restaurant called “something Passage.” I ordered spaghetti, and dad ordered lamb chops. Very good. Then we headed back to the hotel. It was only like 8, but NO ONE was outside. Very weird. Probably drinking or at that Cactus Festival (the concert thing we couldn’t book the first hotel we wanted). Pretty bored at the hotel, so we decided to go to the Cactus Festival. Just for the heck of it. It was at Minnewater Park (about 10-15 min walk) Got in for 10 euro, dad got in for 19, I think. Got in. MANY PEOPLE! Like city fest but in a smaller place. Headed towards the stage. Pushed through the crowed. Got a decent spot. Everyone was smoking around us. I felt like I was going to puke. Everyone had a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Then a band got on stage. It was like a 7 person Spanish mariachi band or something like that. Uhhh….ookkayyy. no. Everyone was like 1234 feet tall so dad wanted to go on the other side. We got there; still surround by smokers and drinkers. Then the smoking got really bad and we had to just leave. Like there were kids picking up the “litter” cups on the ground for some odd reason, like little servants or something. Then when we got out of the “concert” area, we found a booth that the kids would bring the cups and get money. Probably like 1 cent/ cup. Dad said it was a good idea to do that. We walked more around, we checked out some shops and wanted to buy Ben 2 shirts (iJesus, and the girls and video games one) but the sizes weren't right. Then we saw a really cool station in the corner, but dad saw like a water pot and said that it was the station for intense drugs. For example, people smoking marijuana and really bad drugs. Then we went to the eating section and ordered Belgium’s famous fries with a gallon or mannaoyse (sp) on it. When we were heading out I saw that the first booth you walk into SOLD CIGARETTS, that was stupid! Anyways, we walked back to the hotel eating the fries, but the mayo was too much so we used a napkin to scoop/wipe it all off. Then when we got back, I smelled like smoke galore! Fell asleep instantly because the beds/sheets were so f-ing comfy!!!! Haha. + dad didn’t snore! Yay.
